Telangana State Museum
Also known as: Hyderabad Museum, Public Gardens Museum
Opened by the seventh Nizam in the Public Gardens; collections span Buddhist relics, Kakatiya bronzes, an Egyptian mummy and the Nizams' arms.
History & Story
The museum was opened by the seventh Nizam in the Public Gardens, grounds that had been an aristocratic pleasure park before being opened to the city. Its 9,000 objects span five thousand years of Deccan history: Kakatiya bronzes, Buddhist sculptures from Nagarjunakonda (flooded when the dam was built), Satavahana coins, and a full Egyptian mummy acquired by a Nizam in the 1880s under unexplained circumstances. The Public Gardens also contain a bandstand, lake, and century-old trees.
