Built as a town hall to mark the seventh Nizam's accession, in white stucco with wide Rajasthani-style eaves. Legislature of Hyderabad State and its successors ever since.

History & Story

Built to celebrate the seventh Nizam's accession to power, the building has served continuously as Hyderabad's legislative heart, through the Hyderabad State Council, the legislature of undivided Andhra Pradesh, and now the Telangana Legislative Assembly. Its white stucco and wide overhanging Rajasthani eaves give it a domestic grandeur quite different from Vincent Esch's monumental Osmanian style nearby, two different architectural visions of civic identity coexisting on the same riverfront.
