Vincent Esch's riverfront masterpiece for the seventh Nizam: pink granite and local pink sandstone, Mughal domes on a modern plan, on the site of an older Qutb Shahi palace garden.

History & Story

Esch built the High Court on the site of a former Qutb Shahi palace garden, using pink Vindhyan sandstone quarried in Rajasthan to give the building its warm tone. The design synthesizes Mughal domes, pointed arches, and a rational modern courthouse plan in the Osmanian idiom he invented specifically for Hyderabad. It sits directly across the Musi from City College, the two buildings framing the river as a unified civic composition, the finest stretch of planned urban architecture in Hyderabad.
