City College
Also known as: Madrasa-e-Aliya
Another Esch building on the Musi front, in the same Osmanian idiom as the High Court opposite. Began as an Islamic seminary and became a government college.
History & Story
City College mirrors the High Court directly across the Musi, completing a civic composition that Esch planned as a unified riverfront, two buildings sharing proportions and roofline across the water. It began as the Madrasa-e-Aliya, an Islamic seminary, and was converted to a general arts and science college after accession. The Musi between them was once a much wider waterway; the current low water level is the legacy of the 1908 flood control works that changed the river's character permanently.
