Toli Masjid
Built by Musa Khan, an architect at the Qutb Shahi court, on the road between the city and Golconda. Rich stucco work on the facade; sometimes called a smaller cousin of the Mecca Masjid.
History & Story
Toli Masjid was built by Mir Musa Khan in 1671 on the royal road connecting Hyderabad to Golconda fort, a road busy with processions, diamond traders, and court travel. Its stucco facade, a dense field of carved floral and geometric ornament, is among the finest surviving examples of Qutb Shahi decorative craft. The mosque was completed in the last decades of the dynasty: only sixteen years later, Aurangzeb would besiege Golconda and the world that produced this building would end.
