Moula Ali Dargah
Also known as: Maulali Dargah
A hilltop shrine reached by about 500 steps, built after a Qutb Shahi courtier's vision. The annual urs draws large crowds; the hill also carries Qutb Shahi pavilions and tanks.
History & Story
A vision seen by a Qutb Shahi courtier on this rocky hill northeast of the city, an impression in rock attributed to the handprint of Ali ibn Abi Talib, became the founding legend of one of Hyderabad's most beloved pilgrimage sites. Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah built a shrine around the impression and then a full complex of pavilions, water tanks, and rest-houses ascending the hillside. Five hundred steps carved from the rock lead to the summit. The annual urs draws enormous crowds who climb the hill in a tradition unbroken for 450 years.
