Burial ground of the Paigah nobles, who served the Nizams as generals and in-laws. Carved lime-stucco screens (jali) of exceptional delicacy, no two alike.

History & Story

The Paigah were the most powerful aristocratic family in Hyderabad, generals, administrators, and in-laws of the Nizams, and their tombs accumulated across more than a century. The jali screens (perforated lime-stucco panels) carved for each tomb are among the finest examples of this craft anywhere: geometric and floral patterns of extraordinary intricacy, no two the same across the 22 tombs. After independence the family's estates were absorbed by the state and the complex fell into obscurity until INTACH surveys in the 1990s rediscovered and documented it.
