A hilltop Indo-European palace of the Paigah noble Fakhrul Mulk, with some 150 rooms. A 2019 plan to demolish it for a new assembly building was stayed after public protest; its future is unsettled.

History & Story

Errum Manzil, Red Palace, commands one of the city's prominent hills with views over the Hussain Sagar, built by the Paigah noble Fakhrul Mulk in the 1870s. Its 150-odd rooms and European-plan interiors reflect Paigah ambitions that rivalled the Nizam's own palaces. In 2019, a government proposal to demolish it for a new assembly complex provoked unprecedented public outrage that drew national media attention; a High Court stay halted the plan. Its future remains unresolved, occupied by state government offices but under constant threat.
