Over 2,300-year-old Iron Age megalithic burial complex composed of monumental granite boulder stone circles and cist tombs.

History & Story

Excavated systematically by the Hyderabad State Department of Archaeology in the 1930s and later by the Birla Archaeological Institute, Hasmathpet is one of the premier Iron Age megalithic sites in the Deccan. The site contains dozens of stone circles encircling subterranean cist chambers that yielded black-and-red pottery, iron weapons, and terracotta sarcophagi.
