Gachibowli Stepwell
Also known as: Gachibowli Baoli, Well of Gachibowli
The 200-year-old limestone-lined stepwell that gave the entire neighborhood of Gachibowli its name. Once irrigated 10 acres of surrounding farmland; restored in 2021.
History & Story
In Dakhni, 'Gachi' refers to limestone mortar/plaster quarried in this region, and 'Bowli' (from Sanskrit Vapi) denotes a stepped well. Built during early 19th-century Nizam rule, this square stone-masonry stepwell supplied drinking and irrigation water for 10 acres of farmland around the original village. After falling into neglect amid the cyber-city real estate boom, it was successfully cleared, structurally stabilised, and restored in 2021 with perimeter stone paving and protective safety netting.
