The southern retreat of the President of India, built as the residence of the British Resident at Bolarum. Single-storey around a central durbar hall, in large gardens.

History & Story

Originally the residence of the British Resident at Bolarum, a separate posting from the main Residency in Koti, this single-storey building surrounded by large gardens became the official southern retreat of India's President after independence. Unlike the grandeur of Delhi's Rashtrapati Bhavan, this building retains a colonial bungalow scale, domestic in proportion, formal in setting. The gardens, now maintained by the President's Estate office, were historically the site of the Bolarum Residency cantonment.
